I was 56 years old and weighed 103.2kg.
My mother had a bypass operation to cure her blocked arteries and had a heart attack the next day. I spent 10 days with her in Coronary Care before, thankfully she was able to go home.
A month later a very close friend had a heart attack. He was also 56.
I knew I had to do something soon or I would be next and I might not be lucky enough to survive. But What? I had been on diets since I was a teenager and I would lose 10 lb and then put on 12.
My doctor suggested a Dietitian and sent me to see Simone Allen.
The first thing Simone said to me was “You are not going on a diet, we are going to change your eating, drinking and exercise habits. She said she would be disappointed if I lost more than one kilo a week.
Well I now drink water, walk for 40minutes four days a week, look and feel so much better and after 12 months I weight 80 kilos and want to lose another seven.
Having someone to talk to every week or month helps to keep you motivated.
Yes I still have bad days, but now I get up the next morning, go for a walk and get back on track.

My name is Daniel Vernon and I am the Master-in-Charge of rowing at Hale School (Western Australia). I am in charge of over 100 students who choose to row at the school, and the rowing season is during the summer months (starts mid-October and concludes with the Head of the River in late March). For this year I am also coaching Hale School’s 1st VIII crew.
From a referral from our current Sportsmaster, Mr Simon Young, I contacted Simone Allen from Nutrition Works to come and pass on nutritional information to my Senior rowers (15-17yrs) during their residential rowing camp in January. Simone was most accommodating and agreed to talk to the boys on a Thursday evening at the School. She had a very good repour with the boys and debriefing the boys after the talk all said they had found the information relevant and practical. Certainly the way they asked many questions it was clear they were engaged in discussions. I found it to be such a success that I asked Simone to come back to the school on another evening to talk to the boys parents, who equally found the information interesting and usable.
The upshot of the boys and parents being more informed in terms of nutrition is the boys have started to bring healthy snacks along to training sessions and are more conscious of what they put in their mouths. I intend to use the services Simone and Nutrition Works offer in future seasons, and would recommend them to other sporting groups and organisations.

Simone Allen’s enlightening message of the value of good nutrition is important for the future of the 150 St Hilda’s students who were fortunate to hear her session.
In today’s society, with so many pressures on performance, her simple message to our athletes on personal nutrition and preparation was thorough and pertinent for the pursuit of personal excellence.
The open approach to her presentation answered many questions and highlighted the need and importance of following a sensible diet.

I approached Simone for dietary assistance in relation to some difficulties I was experiencing whilst in training for a major sporting event. I had seen Simone present at a seminar and was impressed by her enthusiastic and friendly nature, and decided that Simone was the dietitian I would approach for assistance.
Simone's professional and approachable manner enabled easy discussion of my concerns. Simone acknowledged them and set upon the formulation of a nutrition plan to quell the problems I was experiencing, as well as make sure I was prepared for race day. The plan proved successful and resulted in a great race on the day. I have been in touch with Simone since then with diet and nutritional queries, which she is always more than happy to assist with.
I would not hesitate to recommend Simone to anyone seeking nutritional advice, especially athletes.
